Therapeutic methods

At MNÁ Physiotherapy, each patient receives bespoke treatment

  • Patient education

Daily habits and lifestyle have a huge impact on our health and functioning. You will receive a series of tips that will support therapy.

  • Functional diagnostics

Functional diagnostics is a series of diagnostic tests that help to assess the function of your body, detect areas for improvement and determine the path of treatment. It can involve pelvic floor palpation (per vaginam, per rectum), as well as full body assessment (spine, hips, pelvis)

  • Real-time ultrasound

Realtime Ultrasound enables the physiotherapist to gain a more accurate assessment of pelvic floor muscles function and facilitate an improved pattern of activation. It also provides real time feedback to the patient who can visualise their muscles working live in action on screen, thereby helping them to learn and master the correct pattern of muscle activation.
NOTE: Real-time ultrasound is currently available only in our Stoneybatter Clinic

  • Pelvic floor Exercise therapy

Based on the outcome of the assessment, you will be given a tailored exercise plan. It can consist of pelvic floor squeezes and/or relaxation.

  • Electrostimulation

It is a treatment that, thanks to special impulses, induces muscle activation and helps you to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. Various electrostimulations machines are available for home practice.

  • Manual therapy

Manual Therapy is a clinical approach utilising skilled, specific hands-on mobilising techniques to diagnose and treat soft tissues. It helps to relive pain and tension in the tissues. It can be done internally ( per vaginam, per rectum) or externally (e.g. spine, pelvis)

  • Therapeutic Ultrasound & Laser

Therapeutic Ultrasound has been shown to be useful in helping to reduce the swelling by providing a micro massage to the breast tissue to assist with lymph drainage. We use it to treat blocked ducts & mastitis.

Low-Level Laser Therapy is an effective treatment for healing nipple lesions and reducing pain. Laser Therapy provides immense relief to the mother especially when latching baby onto the breast and helps prolong exclusive breastfeeding. It is a quick, pain-free treatment that does not interfere with the feeding routine. It is also used to treat a c-section and episiotomy scar tissue.

  • Pessary fitting

A vaginal pessary is a device, made of plastic or silicone, which is inserted into the vagina to hold a prolapsed uterus or vaginal wall in place. It will also support your bowel and bladder. It will also help with bladder leaking.
