Tight pelvic floor

I often recommend vibrating pelvic wand as a part of treatment for tight and overactive pelvic floor. If you suffer with persistent pelvic pain:

  • vulvodynia
  • vaginismus
  • painful intercourse
  • endometriosis

pelvic wand is perfect for you!

It can also be use for perineal massage as a part of birth preparation.

Start with breathing and relaxation

Lie on your back – better on the bed than on the floor – you should be comfortable.
Scan the body – start with observation and relax your:

  • jaw
  • shoulders
  • abdomen
  • inner thighs
  • buttocks
  • back passage and entrance to the vagina

Place your hands on your lower ribs and feel them move calmly in the rhythm of your breath.

Then put your hands under the navel and feel your belly gently moving with your breath – inhalation gently rises, exhalation gently falls – avoid pushing the belly out.

Place your hand on the perineum (the place between the vagina and anus) – gently massage it with circular movements, slightly pressing the tissues – such a massage can last about a minute.

Imagine that the entrance to the vagina is like a clock face, where at the top (pubic bone) it is 12 o’clock, towards the anus it is 6 o’clock and your hips are 3 and 9 o’clock respectively.

How to use Pelvic Wand?

Try all the programs on your hand first – find the program with the vibration most gentle for you.

  • Place the device on the perineum (the point between the vagina and the anus) – do not insert the device into the vagina yet, wait a while to feel if this vibration is comfortable for you.
  • You can start working with the round tip of the Pelvic Wand in case of discomfort at the entrance of the vagina.
  • Use lubricant to work with Pelvic Wand – preferably based on water and hyaluronic acid – lubricate part of the Pelvic Wand and the entrance of the vagina.
  • Insert Pelvic Wand slowly into the vagina – breathe slowly, feel how the breath affects the movement of tissues in the perineal area
  • Direct the Pelvic Wand towards 3 o’clock.
  • Hold at this point – gently press on the tissues to your comfort limit and then relax.
  • Repeat several times – work with the breath, feel how on exhalation your body relaxes even more.
  • Then scan your body to see if you have tightened your stomach, thighs and buttocks again. If so, relax. Do not push your lower back against the bed – relax it.
  • Move Pelvic Wand to 4 o’clock and repeat according to the above instructions this movement from 3 o’clock -> 6 -> 9 o’clock.

How long should the massage with pelvic wand take?

The whole massage should take you a maximum of about 10 minutes. Massage with Pelvic Wand 2-3 times a week. You should see a clear difference in muscle relaxation after just one month of regular work!

A word from a women`s health physio

Managing pelvic pain can be tricky. Getting diagnosed and treated as early as possible can help keep pain to a minimum and avoid long-term discomfort.

Physiotherapy aims to relieve or ease pain and improve pelvic floor muscle function.

This may include:

  • exercises to stretch and relax your pelvic floor, stomach, back and hip muscles
  • accessories such as pelvic wand, dilators, vibrators
  • hands-on manual therapy techniques

Whether you’re wanting to avoid pelvic floor problems or overcome them, I’m here for you.
